Echophone S-3 Problems
I have a 1930 echophone S-3 that i am trying to get working, I have replaced all of the capacitors. when i turn it on it is silent for about 10 seconds then starts wailing very loudly and the volume has no effect. I have gone over is several times with my limited knowledge and could not find anything out of place. i have some ideas of what it could be, for instance i know one of my type 45 tube is bad but i wouldn't expect it to cause this. secondly, literally everything on the tuning capacitor is grounded, i do not know if that is right. my best guess is that i got a cap placement wrong. if anyone has any ideas or suggestions they would be greatly appreciated. i posted pictures of the radio and you can find a schematic on tuberadiomuseum.com.

Re: Echophone S-3 Problems
Ready made adapter is available, probably for not too much more than it would cost to build one. https://www.ebay.com/p/5002534412

Re: Echophone S-3 Problems
if the 45 had a problem could it cause unwanted oscillations in the tuner circuit. my radio only squeals in a certain range on the tuner. it is constant clicking that changes frequency when i move the tuner.

Re: Echophone S-3 Problems
I fixed the noise by putting on the shields around the rf coils but it still does nothing, just sits there and hums, the hum is not affected by the volume knob. I'm still stumped.
