My latest basket case
My latest basket case
I bought this GE model 106,which is the same as a RCA model 262.
The cabinet is a mess ,but I can sort that out in the spring.
It needs a new top and needs to be re glued in many places. It has 10 tubes with push pull outputs.
The grill cloth is still there , but needs to be cleaned, and all the knobs are original along with the tubes.
I paid $60.00 for it: probably too much because I saw the same radio in Eastern Canada on Kijiji for $60.00 with a beautiful cabinet. But I do enjoy rescuing these types of radios.

I still can't post more then three photos.

Re: My latest basket case
This is amazing especially considering how much finish loss and deep scratches you had to deal with. An excellent job as always!

Re: My latest basket case
Very nice, as always. I'd also love to see your chassis restorations.

Re: My latest basket case
Thanks Bill:
My chassis restorations are probably the same as almost anybody else's.
I think I do most everything that the other guys do, blow the dust out
change all the caps, test tubes , clean pots, replace wires where needed. and check resistors. Then align the radio
I don't take many photos of the underside unless I think I might run into something that requires taking a few thing out to get at a cap.

Nor did I... until I hit a weird, s/s, small, printed cct. radio FM front end with trace "printed" RF choke coils in the power supply... I had taken out the wire that clipped onto the AC cable "antenna", also some P/S parts to replace, and then forgot where they went! No schematic, of course. Well, I fixed it after a lot of sleuthing... works fine.
Now I take photos of everything... even for schematics I know by heart! It costs nothing, just free insurance!
BTW, a related topic, when replacing parts, I only do one or two at a time and test the radio or amplifier in between... saves much aggravation!
Cheers,
Roger
