Candohm replacement, Crosley Fiver (516BF)
Candohm replacement, Crosley Fiver (516BF)
never had to replace one of these little jewels so looking for some guidance. Crosley 516BF has a dead candohm 33500 resistor. That's no surprise.
The schematic shows it to be (1) 25k) and (1) 8.5k. I removed the old shorted one and building one a terminal strip. Before I blow something up I thought it prudent to ask someone who has run across this before. I have attached a drawing of what I think would be correct.

Ben, it looks like you are on the right track. You need to review the power rating required for the resistors as that can be critical. High power requirements are best handled with the resistor set to the chassis to handle the heat. Hanging in the air is not the best!

Yes just trying to troubleshoot before I use power caps and attach to the chassis . This radio has had some serious tinkering so I'm trying to decide if it is worth the time or scrap it for parts . I have one of these already but got it as a package deal. Thanks for the info.

Is one end grounded? What is the voltage applied?

Re: Candohm replacement, Crosley Fiver (516BF)
Turns out the candohm was short to ground, the speaker coil, speaker transformer and 1st IF were all open. I decided enough is enough so I scrapped it and moving on to the next "deal of the day". I bought 8 radio in a package deal. Some are ok and looks like at least one is dead. Thanks for the input guys. Know anyone who need a Crosley 516BF case, dial glass, knobs, etrc...let me know.

Ben, I had just finished calculations for the candohm, lol
Sorry to hear about all the damage there. That is how parts sets are born.
Good luck
