need help converting todays batteries from old 67 1/2 volt
I am new to this site and would appreciate any help converting batteries. My dad was a rock hound and in 1954 bought a Scintillator (a devise to detect radiation, such as, Uranium). He went to Colorado to look for this ore used in making atomic bombs, etc. I have the unit but it uses two 67 1/2 volt radio type batteries and two 22 1/2 volt hearing aid type batteries. The connectors are the kind that would fit a regular 9 volt battery of today. The manual suggest RCA radio batteries for replacement. I can't find such batteries anywhere. If anyone can help me with information on what to do I would greatly appreciate it. Part of the problem is...the battery pack fit into a metal box just large enough for these type batteries. I don't know how I would put together a series of batteries that would fit in the box. Again any suggestions would be appreciated. I don't even know if the unit works but it appears like it would if I had the batteries. This unit sold for 495.00 in 1954 which is equivalent to over 4,000 today. Does anyone want to look for Uranium?????

How about seven 9 volt batteries clipped together? Close enough!

Might make a physical check of the Geiger tube. Some of these have very thin metal envelopes. Over time the metal collapses and cracks, the tube is ruined.
