GE MVS commercial 2way radios
Has anyone picked any of these radios up and reprogrammed them for HAM use?
I have and they seem to be working great. It would be good to share experiences in order to improve on their usage.

I used to work in a Motorola 2 way shop and have little experience with GE xcvrs, but I looked on Ebay and there is a party offering programming services there and he is apparently located in Virginia.

Re: GE MVS commercial 2way radios
I should have mentioned;
I can program the radios, I have the software and the cable.
The units I'm looking for are the VHF units (model number NPH33SS or NPFH33SS) which work well on the 2 meter band.
The UHF units are good for the 70cm band which I don't care for.
They are not the easiest things to work on and I was wondering about others who might have some good experience with these as far as trouble shooting.

I have always found Motorola units much more tech friendly than GE's. On the other hand GE's proprietary software is probably easier to get these days.

Re: GE MVS commercial 2way radios
I do have a Motorola radio which has been programmed for the 2 meter Ham frequencies in my area. I would like to get the programming software an cable for this radio as well. Do you know where I could find them?

I would try Ebay or a search online. What model is it?

Re: GE MVS commercial 2way radios
Those are a nice radio. there have been tons of them manufactured and I would bet there are plenty of parts accessories and service literature available for them on Ebay. They were the workhorse for most of the commercial businesses we served. If you have the Radius mobile series manual, It will have the breakdown for the model number aith a full listing of all of it's components and the schematics. I'm not sure how detailed the GE manuals are, but you could sit down with the basic and detailed service manual for the Motorola Radius series and work your way through the repair and alignment.

There were a lot of those units sold. They may be the cheaper way to get what you want in a good mobile radio or system.
