CHEAP radio scores from Spring Antique Mall
Today my wife and I went to the Spring Antique Mall after we attended an estate sale that was so thoroughly picked over there was nothing worth looking at. Now I've been aware for a while that transistor radio prices have been depressed, but I was SHOCKED at the deals I got today.
The first one that caught my eye was a GE 766A 6 transistor, made in 1958. This is the one withe the red plaid grill. It looked to be in pretty good condition and the dealer only wanted $3 for it.

The second one that caught my attention was an Onkyo "CLOCKY" 8PA-112T clock radio, a brand name I associate with high end stereos from the 1990s, not transistor radios. The radio has 8 transistors and the clock is manually wound from the back. That one set me back a whopping $6.

The most expensive find for the day was the GE P860A "SPORTMATE" that cost a staggering $8.

That first GE, It looks like the rechargeable model they introduced around that time. Does it use ordinary batteries? Nice haul, by the way!

I think you are right, 75. I remember reading about P766A being rechargeable. However, the batteries that were in it when I disassembled it were Duracells. The reason i think the rechargeables made sense for this unit is because it is a real booger-bear to disassemble sufficiently to change the batteries.

As I remember it was extrusion cast aluminum with sliding panels and end caps. Another example of elegance trumping ease of use. There are a couple of threads about the rechargeables on TRF.

You are correct. Examining the circuit board I now see an RCA connector wired to the batteries... obviously the recharger port.

Maybe over time you could find the accessory and instruction set that went with it I believe they had a case for the charger and radio.
