New toyz............ Photos on the way.............

Sort of. Not all springs fail. My model B Standard is running on it's original spring along with most others. This one just had a weak spot. My guess is right at winding shaft. I got cheated on spring barrel on my B Home. He advertised it as having a new main spring. When it broke two years ago, my frind that installed a new spring for me said the old one was original, and,broken in six places.

Gear train arrived. However, it's making a loud noise. Hope it's just dirty.

I got the good gear cover last Saturday. It's beautiful. Makes the machine look almost new. Cleaned main spring, and, greased it.
Found part of the problem with lack of power. Dammage on mandrel shaft. I'm working on that, and, re doing belt.
I also found top gearing is causing part of the problem.
The machine looks almost brand new.

Looks like it's coming along.

I've started taking pictures of Gem, Standard horn, and, Standard, Plus, a standard I bought back from John Folsom after I got home from nursing home, and, a model D Home I bought last year.
Haven't installed them in computer, yet, But, hope to tomorrow. Can someone volunteer to let me e mail them, and, they install them In this thread??? Much thanks for your patience. Batteries in camera were dead.

Last night, I discovered that shaft was also bent behind the pulley.. I did some straightening on that part. It now plays twoand, a half four minuite records on a winding...
That's an improvement.....

Other than that, I'm still trying to straighten mandrel shaft. It's doing better, but, I have some ways to go....

After you press the icon you will get this window.



You first press select files to locate your picture files on your computer then open your picture, then press select all.

I'm sorry, but, those icons are not shoing up for me.

I forwarded my pictures to Tony. He should get them in his email today.
I tried turning off my Avast, but, it made no fifference.
I've been different problems with my web server. I wonder if IE could be blocking me from doing it.

I use firefox with IE and it doesn't block it. Have you tried the proprietors of this domain? maybe it is held from administrators, or needs to be accessed in a special way.

These are the photo's Bill emailed me to post of his phonographs and horn. There were a couple of duplicates so i omitted those. Bill can come back and fill in descriptions of each photo later. Enjoy!

This is the two min. Edison Gem model B after it broke the main spring.

Been working dillgently on mandrel shaft on model E standard. It's real close. Much less bounce, and, runs stronger. Main spring appears to be good.

Little by little, things are improving. The fun part is getting them working, and, looking as much as possible to what they were like new......
Somehow, I'll get my Edison Gem playing again.....

Thanks, guys.. Been busy, so, couldn't work on it yesterday. The mandrel shaft on the standard is still slightly bent, but, improving.. Spring appears good. I noticed one thing. On machines that were used a lot, the plating on mandrel, and, brake lever is thin. On the ones not having as much use, you can tell from both the looks, and, feel of the parts that the plating is thicker...
Funny.. Croaking Frog, my dealer in NY, sold me a ratty gear cover, which I didn't like. A week after, he had the cover I have with it now for sale. Condition is the same as machine. Excellent paint with mint pin striping.
This machine will be almost like new.
Even the motor has very little gear noise....
