Another goodie
Another goodie
This isn't electronic, or, mechanical, but, it is antique. Yesterday I picked up a nice thirties oak table on spindle legs with a bottom shelf. Legs need re gluing, and, it needs refinishing, but, when done, it will look nice in my music room with say my Edison model B cygnet horn on it on it, and, maybe store my two min. home on bottom shelf...
In any case, it looks nice, and, I got it cheap...

Thanks. I paid 55.00 plus tax, and, I think it was a good deal.
Looked at it briefly. I'm going to like this project.
It's actually a very nice table............

Re: Another goodie
It's more fun if you have to bring it into shape to use it. That way it isn't just yours, you have made it yours.

Re: Another goodie
Funny this should come up now. My wife and are are thinking of turning one of our rooms into something like a cross between a display room and a library. I decided we needed something to serve as bookcases for our collectibles books. So we're going to start looking into auctions selling antiques because we also hate the particle board crap being sold today, and see that the prices on antique shelving units is much more reasonable anyway,

Good find. When we built our house we built one that looks Victorian. We went to yard sales and second hand stores for years before and after. We would buy old furniture. A lot of our furniture looks like it is from the same era as the house looks.
One of our last finds was kind of funny. We were in goodwill and this guy was looking at a older chair. He could have been John Malkovichs twin. He went on and left it so I went over to look at it. I got it. I didn't realize until later he was thinking about getting it. My wife said she overheard the lady with him say it was gone. She said he didn't seem upset. I am like Mezlaw, this particle board stuff is junk.

Re: Another goodie
I like finding older wood furniture and then refinishing it. It takes time but that is the fun of it. I have an older dresser I found that looked like the top caught on fire. I took it and slowly sanded it down and re-stained it. It is much much better than the new press wood/particle board overpriced crap. Sure the Sauder brand stuff is decent quality stuff for what it is, but doesn't even come close to the quality of the solid wood stuff.
