Phono cartridge

Phono cartridge
I need help. I have a beautiful Philco AM-FM console with record player. I haven't done any work on it yet because it needs an expensive tube for the FM. That's not my problem. It has an old turntable with a bent shaft and two holders that come in from the sides. Really cool. But, (big but), I can't find a replacement Webster Electric phono cartridge. Any ideas would help. I'd even rebuild it if I could find an element.

Re: Phono cartridge
What tube do you need? I might have a spare laying around here somewhere.

Re: Phono cartridge
I wonder if it is an FM1000. If so, I'm not sure I have one spare. Let me know and I'll look and see what I have.

It's been a while since I worked on this because I wanted to restore the record player first, which was waiting for a cartridge. I've kept checking eBay but no luck. Then I thought of the forum. Duh! The tube appears to be a plain 'ole 6J5.

Re: Phono cartridge
It's a Philco model 47-1227. I bought it and a chair side 'Frankenradio' for $70. It's in great shape, except for the turntable of course. I'm currently stripping the wood on the chair side to re-stain it.
Here's the Chair Side radio. You're looking at the top.

Re: Phono cartridge
Is the chairside a Philco? Do you need a 6J5 tube?

The Philco and the chair side are two different consoles. I call the chair side a 'frankenradio' because there are no markings other than the usual patent sticker. No name, model number, ect.
I need the 6J5 for the Philco console. It was the only tube that tested bad. My old AES catalog has 6J5 as $6 but the 6J5G is $26. "?"

Re: Phono cartridge
I should have a 6J5, but I have NO 6J5G's. Those may be harder to find, but not $26 worth of hard. You could check to see that pin #1 is not used as a tie point and use a 6J5 in place of the "G." One is metal, of course, and the other "ST" shaped glass.

Re: Phono cartridge
True. I don't have any glass 6J5's of any kind. Metal will be the only choice from me.

Shouldn't it work?
If so let's get together.

I'll see what I have, test some, then get back with you, if that will work.

Re: Phono cartridge
I would have to check on the 6K7G. I would not promise anything.
I do not have a 6G5 to spare. Sorry.

Re: Phono cartridge
Please check it. It's an old high quality radio project I haven't finished that I've had three years. Thanks.
