RCA 7-T-122
This one I found on ebay. Bill, does this set appear to have had the CRT updated with a larger one? The rectangle surround looks out of place.

Nope. That one is correct. The 7 stands for 17" size, dates to 1951.
Uses the KCS 47 F, or, G chassis.... Not a bad price for it, but, will be a project to rebuild. Probably worth trying to save.

You are the man, Bill! I knew that you could set me straight. What do I need to look for on sets that may have been modified? That one I was looking at in KC last summer was not modified. Modified sets do not necessarily offend me, I just want to know what I am doing before I do it. Thanks, Bill.

In RCA it's simple. Anything beginning with numbers six, nine, eight, or, seven are not supposed to have rectangular picture tubes...
In 1952 They started changing model numbers....
For instance, 630 would be 1946 with a ten inch tube, round.
But, it's masked off to look like a square picture...
