Testing the IR Remote
If you have a digital camera, turn it on and aim the remote at the camera and press the remote button(s) while watching the viewing screen. You should see it flash on the screen. This also aids in seeing how the light is oriented relative to the remote. (low, high or to either side).

No problem. I have aimed the led's on my remotes to allow seeing the buttons while having the beam directed at a downward angle. One remote I thought was intermittent was aimed upwards.
