You know, Ron, I think you're right. Looking at it more closely, I sse the herringbone, and, thoigh I do see a white line in the middle, I don't see fold over. Might be it just needs better adjustment, which I know it does. But, I don't want to do final adjustments until it's back in the cabinet, which won't be until I get more work done on that.
Next thing I will do is replace the detent, which is broken. Then, I have to adjust the fine tunning.
All this will give it more bench running time.

Played set for 1.5 hours tonight. I did some adjustments on audio, and, agc . Set's showing a pretty good picture.

Ah, fug---ggg-e!
Set went backwards today. AGC problem made a come back.
Tried three different agc tubes, one stabilized it but, barely.
I now have twitching back in picture, and, I'm finding out that adjusting osc. screws in tuner is proving impossible, as they are frozen.

Re: RCA Victor -A new dog in the family...... It's Alive!
Well, my problems aren't over.
I adjusted the vertica., and, it's much better.
I tried adjusting some of the oscilator trimmers, and, have 2,3,4,and, 5 producing good sound, but, fine tunning isn't exactly centered. Further, I still have two problems.
First, I have very intermittent agc problems that are at their worst when the set is cold.
Secondly, a continued problem or the horizontal wanting to twitch.
I'm not happy with the way it's playing.

Re: RCA Victor -A new dog in the family...... It's Alive!
Ran into a snag. I decided to go ahead, and, replace the detent in tuner. That turned into a big nightmare, and, the other parts weren't totally interchageable. My shafts are longer, and, the main front mounting plate is slightly smaller. I was able to use shaft assembly with ball bearings. However, I'm haveing a slight binding problem, and, I'm having other issues, and, worries.
This is gonna take awhile.

Re: RCA Victor -A new dog in the family...... It's Alive!
I have almost totally eliminated the binding problem. Cleanning contacts helped alot.
I found bag of loose parts to set, and, put two missing tube shields back on radio tubes. Found a few parts i lost, and, put them back with set, and, found, and, repaired correct channel selector knob.
Did some adjusting of yoke assembly, and, put good replacement picture tube bumpers on. Original were rotted.
Hope to be trying set soon.

Re: RCA Victor -A new dog in the family...... It's Alive!
I just spent two hours tuning the radio. Both bands were way off frequency. Fm is slightly better, and, am is greatly improved.
May need to do tweaking when set's back together, but, it's alot better.

Re: RCA Victor -A new dog in the family...... It's Alive!
Well, more good news on the radio. Some adjustment screws on the tuner, and, FM det. transformer were out of alignment, and, frozen. I was able to free them up. FM is now working very well.
AM was also quite weak, and, I found the correct adjustment for that, plus Oscilator, and, got it in tune. I'm even getting a weak fm station that is nearly impossible to get here. It's not real loud, but, it IS coming in.
Other FM stations are great..............
So, I'm calling the radio finnished, except for the dial cord.

Got tv playing, again, last night. Bad news....
It plays, but, sync is barely holding, reception has gotten worse, intermittent agc still acts up, and, along with weak sound, there is now a loud audio buzz.
Apparently, it's not fixed.

Re: RCA Victor -A new dog in the family...... It's Alive!
MOre bad news........
Decided to work on set tonight. I hooked everything back up. Decided to try radio first. AM works o.k. FM, NO. I get some buzzing at full line voltage, and, two weak tv stations, but, otherwise radio fm is totally DEAD!
You don't want to hear the words going through my head right now.
Just let it be known, I'm very, very dissappointed.

Re: RCA Victor -A new dog in the family...... It's Alive!
I've found the problem!
Last night I located a second copy of the sam's schematic, and, started looking at it.
When I first rebuilt the set I saw nothing in the oscilator sefction from under the chassis, and, there is a somewhat hard to remove shield above the chassis.
Last night something told me to look at one of the pictures of the chassis. I did, and, found a .01 paper capacitor.
It is a bypass capacitor on the plate of the oscilator tube to keep the rf out of the power supply.
That capacitor, of course, has failed.
It is used for the FM.
I will replace it. I removed the shield, and, there it is, all nasty, and, leaky.

Re: RCA Victor -A new dog in the family...... It's Alive!
Well, replace cap last night. NO go. Same thing.
Tried different tubes. New 6J6 made fm slightly louder, but, no better. Other tubes didn't help. I had a terrible time removing 6AL5 from set, and, had to remove chassis, and, pry it out...
I tried a diffeent one, and, fm was totally dead.
This set is in big trouble!
I may give up on it, now.

Hope to get back on radio later today. I have an idea, or, two.
I'm not giving up. I like it too much.
Besides, after all I've done, why quit now??

Re: RCA Victor -A new dog in the family...... It's Alive!
NO, sadly I'm not. Yesterday was a bad day. The fm broke down first. Then, I dropped the chassis on the set while trying to pull the fm det. tube. That broke the first IF coil on tv. The, while trying to fix fm, am died.
I now have three major probllems.
A broken coil, a dead radio, and, broken radio dial cord.
