Silvertone 1671 schematic/labels
Silvertone 1671 schematic/labels
I am restoring a Silvertone 1671 table radio and no matter where I search, free or for cost, I cannot find schematic/alignment info for this set. The closest I came is model 1571/1171, chassis 101.610-1. My chassis is 101-610 but there are definite differences.
This set uses a voltage doubler AC rectification scheme that appears a bit different from the 1571, as well as the tone control being a switch in the 1571 vs. a pot in the 1671. Does anyone have a schematic or know where I can obtain one?
Also the three labels on the back of the chassis are virtually disintegrated and wonder if anyone who has a similar set could take some clear photos so I can try to reproduce them. One is a vertical label on the IF can and the other two are on the right side of the rear panel.
Thanks,
Steve D

Re: Silvertone 1671 schematic/labels
The models as I'm aware of from Sears of the model numbers tend to be much longer. Example might be something like
1571.2312.759.
This is not an actual model number, just an example of what I mean. Sometimes somewhat shorter.
I could be wrong on yours.
Can you post pictures?

Re: Silvertone 1671 schematic/labels
Bill, thanks for the fast response. Here are a few photos:
http://demandred.dyndns.org/540i/gallery/album22
The sticker on the right inside of the cabinet just says Model 1671, with a serial # and chassis #. There is a schematic and parts list on a pasted sticker glued to the top of the inside of the cabinet but it is tiny, yellowed, and basically unreadable. I also have to find an original replacement speaker as someone butchered it up years ago.
Thanks,
Steve D

Only one of your antenna leads is connected. You need both prongs plugged in.
Secondly, Look at the metal tag on chassis. I bet that's the chassis number. Try looking it up by that number.

Also, what did you put in place of the field coil? If only a resistor, is it the correct value, and, if a resistor, you need to increase the capacitance values of electrolytics. The field coil does some of the filtering. You might be better off getting original speaker rebuilt.

Re: Silvertone 1671 schematic/labels
Bill,
Since I took those photos I have taken the radio apart and will be restoring the chassis first and then the cabinet. The cabinet is in relatively good shape and should only need touching up and a few coats of lacquer. The chassis will need recapping, painting, etc.
The PO cut the field coil off the original speaker, left it hanging with the output transformer mounted, and put a cheap Radio Shack speaker in its place, so the field coil is still in the circuit. I wish I had the original speaker but if I can't locate one I'll leave the RS speaker or get a better quality replacement but mount the field coil properly to the chassis. It has also been modified from a 35Z6 to a 25Z6 with some kluge dropping resistors hanging underneath...Ugh!
The metal tag says 101-610 which could be the chassis number. I'll try to search on that number. Thanks again for your help.

Re: Silvertone 1671 schematic/labels
Good luck on it. I'll help where I can.
I found an old project radio I need to get back on. It's a Silvertone battery farm radio with the original AC power adaptor supply. I had recapped radio some years ago, but, not sure what on power supply. I only know it only produced a low hum in the radio.
I'm missing all the knobs for it, also. OUCH!

Look that number up. It could be the chassis number....
